The Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo (aka Katy Rodeo) is set to kick off its 82nd year, bringing a week of excitement, community spirit, and agricultural education to the heart of Texas. From February 11th to the 15th, Katy will be bustling with activity, offering something for everyone in this long-standing celebration of our rich rodeo heritage. This year’s events will be held at the new Complex located on Katy Hockley Cut Off Rd at Beckendorff Rd. Proceeds from the Katy Rodeo and Livestock Show directly benefit Katy ISD FFA chapters, students, and special needs rodeo programs. In 2024, the event raised an impressive $65,000 for these initiatives, fostering agricultural education and leadership in the community. Let’s make 2025 even better!
Schedule of Events
The main event kicks off each night at 7:00 PM, with gates opening at 6:00 PM. Spectators can expect a full lineup of classic rodeo events, including:
- Bareback riding
- Saddle bronc
- Steer wrestling
- Team roping
- Calf roping
- Barrel racing
- Bull riding
For the younger crowd, don’t miss the popular calf scramble, stick horse races, and mutton bustin’ events. Mutton bustin’ is my personal favorite. Here’s a photo of Todd and our girls at the Rodeo when they were younger. We used to love watching the mutton bustin’ and laughing. For those new to the Katy area or rodeos in general, mutton bustin’ is kids hanging on to sheep. It’s the cutest thing you’ll ever see!
There are also art shows and other events in conjunction with Katy ISD.
Themed Nights & Discounts
As tends to be customary, each night of the event promises a unique experience with a focus on a community group or theme as follows:
- Thursday, February 13: First Responders Night – Free admission for KISD elementary students, current/past military personnel and first responders with valid ID
- Friday, February 14: “Pink Night” in support of breast cancer awareness and Valentine’s Day
- Saturday, February 15: The Parade of Champions kicks off the final night, celebrating outstanding participants
Livestock Show to Support Future Farmers
The livestock show runs throughout the week, showcasing the hard work of Katy ISD FFA students. Highlights include:
- Best Buddies Grand Drive (February 11)
- Special Rodeo (February 11)
- Broiler, rabbit, goat, lamb, swine, and steer shows
- Floral and horticulture exhibitions
- Agriculture mechanics show
Community members can support these young agriculturists through auction and barn sale purchases, as well as add-on donations. If you can’t make it in person, you can catch the livestream on YouTube to follow all the action.
Deep in the Heart of Katy Parade
On Saturday, February 15, at 9:30 AM, the annual Katy Rodeo Parade will wind its way from Rhodes Stadium to Katy High School. Led by Parade Marshal Glenn Beckendorff, this procession always features community groups, school organizations, marching bands, and equestrian teams. The theme, “Deep in the Heart of Katy,” promises to showcase the best of local spirit and creativity.
Animal Admiration at the Katy Rodeo
We always participate in the Katy Rodeo. It’s an Animal Admiration tradition. This year, we’ll be at Box 64 – Animal Admiration Pet Sitting. Make sure you stop by the booth and say “hello!” For us, participating in this local event and celebrating local traditions is an honor and privilege.
As the Katy Rodeo celebrates its 82nd year, it continues to be a testament to the community’s dedication to preserving its agricultural roots while providing entertainment for all ages. Whether you’re a long-time rodeo fan or a first-time visitor, the 2025 Katy Rodeo promises an unforgettable experience that captures the true spirit of Texas. Don’t miss this chance to be part of a cherished tradition that has been bringing the Katy community together for generations.
