Sometimes there is nothing better than getting out and hitting the trails on a sunny day. Now that the temperatures is finally starting to cool down, the weather is perfect for it. What’s even better is bringing your dog along to enjoy nature with you. We’ve complied a list of some great hiking and walking trails near Katy that you should definitely check out this fall.
1. Houston Arboretum & Nature Center
If you haven’t been, you definitely need to visit the Houston Arboretum. You can walk your dog around the large outer loop trail for an invigorating two-mile walk, or choose to take your pooch along some of the inner trails for a shorter stroll. There are water fountains and restrooms at the nature center. Plus is it pretty shaded so you can go any time of day and not be over heated.
2. Mason Creek Hike and Bike Trail
This trail runs between Highland Knolls and Westgreen and has several places where you can enter. On warmer days you may want to hit this trail in the morning or the evening because it’s not very shaded. However, it does offer a great place to walk with your dog.
3. George Bush Park Hike and Bike Trail
This large hike and bike trail is located in W. Houston area. It has an 11 mile trail and is around 7,800 acres. The parks amenities also include ball fields, picnic areas, and wild life areas.
4. Terry Hershey Park Hike & Bike Trail
This park actually connects to the George Bush Park and has 10 miles of trails. There are also exercise stations and playgrounds. Both paved and not this park offers smooth up and down walking with many routes to take.
5. Buffalo Bayou Park
If you’re looking to get out and enjoy a natural setting, but not leave the comfort of the city the Buffalo Bayou is for you. You can see trees, birds and more as you walk your dog along the 10 miles of trails. It is usually pretty populated so you won’t feel like you and your dog are alone. Just stick to the areas near the Wortham fountain or in the park near the intersection of Studewood and Allen Parkway where dog walkers like to frequent.
