Top Fall 2023 Travel Tips

Travel is getting hairy and we don’t just mean pet-friendly travel. As you may have heard, post-pandemic travel has become quite an adventure. For this reason, we want to help you prepare for whatever comes your way with our top fall 2023 travel tips.

Plan Ahead

Planning ahead is always a good idea, especially when airfare and gas prices are at an all-time high. Research the impacts of Covid-19 in the area where you’re headed. Different states and countries have varying vaccine and mask mandates. Don’t forget to look into visa requirements if going abroad.

Don’t wait until the last minute to purchase your tickets and book your accommodations. The longer you wait, the higher the prices might be. While heading out without reservations may be a fun option for a road trip, we recommend planning and booking ahead if you are traveling with kids and/or pets. While adults may have the stamina to drive around for hours looking for a place to lay their heads, kids and pets benefit from more planning.

Budget Time & Money

Organize your budget and prioritize things you want to see and do. Even a loose game plan will make things easier, especially if you’re on a tight budget and want to take in a lot of the local sights.

If you have lots of friends and family to catch up with but won’t have time to see them all, set up a soiree where you can gather with everyone at once. When sightseeing, make a list of priorities and start with your most desired places to visit first.

Packing Hacks

First things first, you have to pack smarter. It’s not just about what you pack but also about how you pack it. We love a life hack and here are some of our favorite travel hacks:

  • Protect and make space for delicate items such as jewelry by placing them in a secure bag or box inside your shoes
  • Consider putting shower caps over your shoes if your suitcase doesn’t have a separate compartment for shoes
  • Roll your clothes to take up less space and keep wrinkles at bay
  • Pack dryer sheets to keep your clothes smelling fresh and use them to rub down outfits that may have static cling
  • Either make a list of must-have items or start placing these in a designated location before packing; if you think of something you must have, pack it ASAP so you don’t forget
  • Put a small bit of clear cling wrap on top of toiletry bottles and screw the lids back on to avoid spills
  • Pour small amounts of lotion and creams into an old contact lens case if you know you will not use the whole bottle while you’re away

Safety Tips

Always make sure your bases are covered when it comes to safety. Especially when traveling abroad, it’s best to keep your money in separate places and keep your wallet in your front pocket. If you’re carrying a purse, it’s safer to have a crossbody bag instead of a shoulder bag both for comfort and to prevent someone from taking stuff out of your bag while in crowded spaces.

Also, be wary of connecting to free wifi in unfamiliar places. Just like pickpockets, opportunistic hackers are waiting to pounce on the data of unsuspecting users.

Finally and likely most importantly, scan copies of your important documents and email them to yourself. If for some awful reason your passport goes missing, you’ll be able to pull up your documents in no time. Just make sure to delete them from your cloud as soon as you get home, another reason to avoid public wifi if possible.

Ensure your Pets are Covered

Before you purchase tickets or make room reservations, determine whether your pet will come along with you or not. If your pet is coming along, make sure you contact the airline before booking your ticket to verify their pet policy. And, always double check hotel and short-term rental pet policies to ensure that you are reading their current policy and don’t run into unpleasant surprises at check-in.

If your pet is staying home, hire your favorite pet sitter from Animal Admiration to take care of them while you’re gone. And, do so with plenty of time to ensure availability. Your pet will certainly miss you while you’re away, but if you take our fall travel advice, you’ll have a splendid time and be nice and relaxed when you get home. We’ll make sure your best friend is happy and healthy, at home waiting to lick your face.
