The best shampoo for dogs is out there, you just have to look for it. It’s such an overwhelming process, isn’t it? There are so many options on the market nowadays, it’s hard to know which one is best! We’ve narrowed down some of our favorites to help you start your search for the best shampoo for your dog.
Earthbath All Natural Pet Shampoo
Earthbath products include shampoo for dogs! They are a favorite of ours and a favorite of many other pet parents as well. No matter what your dog’s needs are, you could literally address all of them with this product line.
One of our favorites in the line is the oatmeal & aloe shampoo. It’s great for itchy, dry skin providing relief with oatmeal and aloe. We love the ingredient in this line as well as the ingredients they leave out. The oatmeal & aloe formula contains water, plant derived cleansers, organic vitamins, glycerin, as well as vanilla and almond, all natural botanical fragrance. Your dog’s skin will be moisturized and feeling soft, silky and of course, clean. There are no soaps, glutens, phthalates, sulfates, dyes, or parabens. Even better, they are a cruelty free company and offer a full guarantee of their products. All products are also made in the USA and tested on humans, particularly the CEO!
4 Legger Dog Shampoo
Another shampoo for dogs that we love is the 4 Legger Dog Shampoo. We love that this company is USDA Certified Organic. All natural ingredients are the best for dogs and their sensitive skin. With a blend of ingredients like olive, jojoba, rosemary, aloe vera, and coconut oil, your dog’s coat and skin will be left feeling amazing. You can depend on never washing your dog with any harsh ingredients either. They leave out sulfates, detergents and anything that is synthetic or artificial. They are also proponents of the environment so they use locally sourced, biodegradable ingredients made right here in the USA.
One thing that really intrigued us about this company is how it all started. Melissa Boland lost her dog to cancer on the same day that she was diagnosed with cancer. She came to realize that pet grooming products were not regulated! This meant that companies could claim all natural and not really be. It’s amazing how she used her own journey with cancer to develop a product that pet parents could safely use on their pets. Her products are always tested through the USDA Organics program, truly ensuring that her company is putting the best products on the shelves.
Can I use human shampoo on my pets?
Shampoo for humans is not the same as shampoo for dogs. Many people think that if a product is safe enough for them, it’s safe enough for their dogs. That’s simply not true. The pH of a dog’s skin is much different than the pH in your skin. Human shampoo is much too acidic for dogs and will upset the pH in their skin. Bathing your dog with human shampoo will strip the skin, thereby exposing it. In addition, unexposed skin is essentially open to being bombarded by many microorganisms. The result is irritated skin. Rash, bumps, hot spots, peeling skin and more can be very problematic in dogs. It’s always better to delay a bath and find a product properly suited for your pet.
Before you ever choose a shampoo for your dogs, do your research! Doing so will help you find the best shampoo for your dog, not the cheapest or the most easily accessible. The skin is the largest organ for both humans and dogs. Bathing your dog with products you don’t understand can put them in a position of lifelong skin and overall health issues.
