Wouldn’t it be great to know that the cleaning products you use are safe for your entire family? Pets and small children alike are curious creatures, which is wonderful and dangerous at the same time. Having a stash of cleaners with toxic chemicals in them could spell disaster if they fall into the wrong hands. That’s why making natural cleaning products is such a great idea. They are safe, effective, and often much more economical than commercially available products. That’s why we think the following money-saving, pet-friendly cleaning products are always a good choice.
Pet-Friendly Cleaning Products: Clean Ingredients
Baking Soda
Baking Soda is a natural deodorizer and stain remover. Since it is a naturally abrasive ingredient with mild alkaline properties, it works great as a surface cleaner. Because baking soda is naturally non-toxic, it protects your pets and kids when used as a surface cleaner.
Vinegar
Vinegar can be used to remove stains, sanitize, and disinfect. It’s often diluted with water to both save money and ensure it’s not too potent. Just exercise caution using it on stone surfaces and acetate fabrics. When in doubt, test a spot before using vinegar mixtures on porous surfaces and materials.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen Peroxide is a disinfectant with bleaching and stain-removing properties. It’s also extremely inexpensive. If you get blood on sheets, dog beds, or your clothing, hydrogen peroxide can be dabbed directly on the fabric to remove the stain.
Grapefruit Oil
Grapefruit oil has antibacterial properties. Paired with salt, grapefruit oil makes an excellent bathroom cleaner. Remember to never leave essential oils unattended around pets because they are potent and potentially dangerous when undiluted.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice naturally cuts grease and leaves a nice fresh scent. It can also be used as a bleaching agent on fabrics. When setting your stained fabrics out in the sun, squeeze some lemon on the stain and watch the citrus and sun work their magic together.
Castile Soap
Liquid Castile Soap like Dr. Bronner’s is a vegetable-based soap. Non-toxic and inexpensive, you can usually buy a large bottle of castile soap, which should last a very long time since you’ll only be using a bit at a time.
