After the turkey has been carved and dishes have been stacked high in the sink, pet lovers around the US gear up for the biggest shopping weekend of the year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday mark the official start of the holiday season. Sales tags are hung, prices are slashed, and crowds gather, hoping to get the deal of a lifetime. While there’s always some nonsense that occurs over the craziest shopping weekend of the year, it doesn’t have to be all madness. Here are a few things you can do to fetch the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday pet deals. Happy Shopping!
Check for Holiday Hours
Before setting out to find the best Black Friday pet deals, verify store hours to ensure you have a plan in place for how you’ll hit up multiple stores.
Make a Shopping List
Make a list of the pet products you need or want to upgrade. This will help you stay focused and not get overwhelmed by all the deals.
Make a virtual shopping list by filling up your shopping cart without checking out. That way, you can quickly check out once prices drop. Also, some retailers will offer you a discount when you leave items in your cart for a few days. Last year, Walmart emailed me two days after I was browsing for gifts for my son. They were offering me 10% off a toy I was planning to get him anyway. It worked, I got the toy early and saved a nice chunk of change on it too!
Subscribe to Newsletters In the Weeks Leading to Sale Dates
In the weeks or days leading up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, look online for what deals you want to snag. Most major retailers already have Black Friday preview ads letting you know their major deals. Many will also allow you to sign up for their newsletter, in which retailers often share exclusive deals with their most loyal subscribers.
Follow Pet Products’ Social Media Pages for Sale Announcements
Also leading up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, follow pet product brands and retailers on social media platforms. Often, they post special promotions or discounts leading up to these shopping events.
Compare Prices Across Multiple Retailers to Find the Best Deal
Use price comparison websites or apps to ensure you’re getting the best deals. It’s not just about the discount percentage but also about the final price you pay. Also, consider opening a Target Debit Card or other card with points to make your purchases go even further for you. Target’s debit card members get 5% off all purchases and they even have holiday weekends during which they will give 5% off gift cards. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving! Check out NerdWallet for the best credit cards for this purpose.
Don’t Spend it All in One Place & Time
Don’t forget to save some money for the Cyber Monday deals. Often, Black Friday deals, which happen in-store, are just a warm-up for whatever companies are trying to offload from centralized warehouses. If the Black Friday deal doesn’t feel generous enough, stand by for Cyber Monday.
Plan & Stick to Your Budget
Speaking of spending money, give yourself a budget for what you want to spend and stick to it. Also, think about what truly constitutes a deal. How much of a discount is worth your investment? Don’t get caught up in the energy of the day, be mindful of how good a deal you’re getting. Remember, after-Christmas sales are right around the corner.
Support Local Pet Stores
Always consider supporting local pet stores on Small Business Saturday, which falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Small stores may have unique items and personalized service that you won’t find at major retailers and online.
Focus on Pet Health Products
Don’t compromise on the quality of pet products you purchase just because they are on sale. While discounts are great, it’s essential to prioritize products that promote the health and well-being of your pets. If you’re in the market for new pet food and supplements, consider stocking up on the good stuff at the sale prices. Most supplements will last 1 year unopened.
Make Online Safety a Priority
On Cyber Monday, it’s important to practice secure online shopping. We recommend you stick to trusted websites, beware of phishing scams in your email inbox, and safeguard your personal information, including credit card numbers unless you’re confident in the retailer.
Read the Fine Print During Sales
Print out and bring the advertisement you see online in case there is a price dispute in the store. Don’t forget to go over the store’s sale and return policies. A lot of stores have a no refund policy on Black Friday deals. Reading the fine print will set you up to avoid buyer’s remorse.
Black Friday & Cyber Monday on Your Terms
Whether you are up in the wee hours of the morning on Black Friday or wait until Cyber Monday to indulge, a little research and preparation will go a long way.
