Kicking off today, Thursday, February, 22nd through, Saturday, February, 24th, 2024 at the NRG Park in Houston, the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest is part of the Houston Rodeo. Still, it requires a separate admission that can be purchased on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo website.
The event welcomes over 250 teams competing for the title of World Champion in various barbecue categories like brisket, chicken, and ribs. This year, the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest celebrates its 50th-anniversary celebration, featuring the return of many long-time teams. Competing teams cook using only wood or wood-substance fires while judges evaluate entries based on taste, tenderness, appearance, and overall impression.
While winners are announced at 7 PM on Saturday, February 24th at the Miller Lite Garden Stage, public venues like The Garden, Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon, and the Chuckwagon offer food, drinks, and live music daily. Meanwhile, adults and children can enjoy a carnival with rides, games, and fun for the whole family.
